Time to open up the baby name book. Fans have a new football-themed lovechild that will officially be born in the Missouri Tigers 2014 home opener against South Dakota State on August 30.

It’s the brand new section of Faurot Field’s newly renovated eastern side, where a whole new upper level deck of seats has been added over the off season. And the Mizzou athletic program needs help naming it.

  • It was announced Monday that the school is hosting a vote for fans to decide the name for not one but two of the brand new hot spots for Tiger faithful to show their black and gold pride: the new stadium section and a multi-purpose tailgate terrace.

Mizzou has a list of names it is considering and wants fan feedback. Those who want to weigh in can do so at head coach Gary Pinkel’s official website, garypinkel.com.

The added upper deck of the stadium, which began construction in January, increases the stadium capacity to 75,000 strong for Memorial stadium, including 4,100 new upper level seats, 1,200 premium seats with club and loge seating.

There will be a 23,000 square-foot club area in the renovated east tower. It comes suited out with an expanded concourse, enhanced/expanded restroom and concession areas, new ticket office location, more points of entry and new field lighting.

The total cost for the renovation amounts to $45.5 million.

But the other place that the school is seeking input on is the brand new tailgating terrace located in the south end of the stadium. They want to give the space a moniker that fits its awesome attributes.

    From an MU press release:

"“This brand new tailgate area will give fans access to food buffets, cash bars, live music entertainment and a TV viewing area, among other amenities, and the area will be open pre-game, at halftime, and post-game for a defined period of time.  That allows fans to have hassle-free parties to celebrate football Saturdays with all of their friends and families!”"

According to the release, the names under consideration are as follows.

    For the new upper level:

    -Tiger Deck or

    -The Show-Me Deck

For the tailgate terrace, the options are:

    -Truman’s Tailgate

    -Tiger Terrace

    -Tiger Tailgate

    -Truman’s Terrace

Personally, we here at Truman’s Tales think the first choice on that list of tailgate options is the best.  It just rolls off the tongue. Say it with me! “Truman’s Tailgate.” See? It’s perfect.
