Well, you can’t win ’em all.

Alex Ofodile, a 6’3, 200lb wide receiver out of Columbia’s own Rock Bridge High School made a verbal commitment to the University of Oregon on June 24th. Ofodile is rated as the 5th best wide receiver recruit in the nation, being ranked the 42nd best recruit overall by ESPN’s 2015 list of 300 top recruits.

  • It’s tough to swallow, considering he graduated from high school less than two miles down the road from MU’s campus.

This commitment is coming on the heels of another top recruit from the Tigers backyard leaving for another big time program when Hale Hentges committed to Alabama over the Tigers. Hentges is a 6’4, 230lbs tight end coming out of Helias High School in Jefferson City, MO.

These commitments were not only a blow to the program with their play on the field but it cuts even deeper because they were both local kids and would have helped set the stage for future recruits to consider Columbia as a possible destination.

Unfortunately, instead, with Hentges and Ofodile leaving to go to prestigious out of state programs, the Tigers missed out on two opportunities to keep some in-state talent.
