Missouri Tigers Add Idaho To 2017 Schedule
By Derek Franks
In what could be described as the “meh” story of the week, the Missouri Tigers Added Idado to their 2017 non-conference schedule. Missouri’s athletic department made the announcement Friday, coming at the end of a more exciting week of the football offseason for the program.
Missouri needed another non-conference foe that it could hopefully easily dispatch, and thus they went with Idaho, a school which was bowl bound in recent years, but isn’t anywhere near the “power 5” level that the Southeastern Conference is allegedly seeking to schedule.
By adding Idaho, the Missouri Tigers have now completed their 2017 non-conference schedule. The game will come second in line in the fall of that year, joining Missouri State, Purdue and Connecticut as the other non-SEC schools on the slate. The game will be played on October 21, 2017. Mark your calendars.
This scheduling has to make Mizzou fans at least somewhat wonder if the program is truly committed to establishing itself as a relevant contender in this league. We’ve seen in very recent history that college football punishes the power 5 schools for scheduling weak teams. But that discussion may be for another day.
For now, the news is, Mizzou has its 2017 non-conference schedule filled. Hopefully the Tigers will continue their winning ways into that year. In 2015, Mizzou will be defending its second consecutive SEC East Title.
Missouri has faced Idaho on the football field two other times, and they have a 2-0 record against the Vandals. The two schools haven’t met since 1963. The other meeting came in 1958.
Idaho went a sultry 1-10 in 2014. Judging by that, the Missouri Tigers should have no problem picking up a “w” regardless of their status in 2017.
