Mizzou basketball goes up against Northern Kentucky in the second game of the season.

After taking out Incarnate Word to begin the year, the Mizzou basketball team moves on to face Northern Kentucky tonight in the second game of the year.

Mizzou and Northern Kentucky both enter today’s game with a 1-0 record.

Northern Kentucky handled D-II opponent University of Cincinnati Clermont College by 50, 105-55. Mizzou won its opening game by 40, 82-42 over the Cardinals.

Now, the Tigers move on to face a formidable opponent in Northern Kentucky. The Norse went to the NCAA Tournament last season as a No. 14 seed. They lost in first round to No. 3 Texas Tech 72-57, which went on to play in the national championship game.

Last year’s record: Northern Kentucky 26-9; Mizzou basketball: 15-17

Northern Kentucky lost both its coach and top player from last year’s tournament team, so the Norse are not going to be the same this season.

At the helm for Northern Kentucky now is Darrin Horn, who replaces John Brannen, who left for the Cincinnati job. Drew McDonal was the Horizon League’s conference player of the year. Now, the team is led by guard Bryson Langdon and Tyler Sharpe. Langdon was 5 of 7 from the 3-point line in their first game while Sharpe is a preseason All-Horizon league player.

Next up: The Tigers play head on the road to take on No. 19 Xavier on Tuesday.
