Mizzou Recruiting Update

As we all know, recruiting is the cornerstone to all college sports. With no way to insure parity like the NFL Draft, all of the pressure is on the coaches to recruit the future talent of the teams. Here is a quick update on how the Tigers’ recruiting classes are shaping up to this point.

Football: Currently, the Tigers have 14 football commitments, with only one (Evan Boehm) being ranked in the ESPNU 150. However, things are shaping up to be a very strong class, especially around the line of scrimmage.

Boehm (Lee’s Summit, MO) headlines the class as the 52nd best player in the country, and the number one offensive guard. His explosiveness and agility are what set him apart from other lineman prospects. His strength is more than adequate, but could add a bit more bulk to his 6’3 300 pound frame.

One of the most interesting prospects is quarterback Maty Mauk (Kenton, OH). ESPN ranks him as the 16th best QB in the class. He isn’t your prototypical quarterback (but outside of Blaine Gabbert, when has Mizzou had that?), but you can’t argue with his production. As a junior, he threw for 5670 yards and 69 touchdowns, rushing for 974 more and 16 TDs. He has plenty of experience in a true spread offense, and is extremely accurate. Could we be seeing some shades of Chase Daniel?

Coach Pinkel and his staff seemed to focus hardest on both sides of the line. A strong defensive line class is headed by Donald Hopkins, a 4-star recruit out of Lago Vista, Texas. His quickness and low pad level are extremely impressive. In a perfect world, he can add to his 6’2 275 lb frame without losing the quickness and motor that makes him so special.

Basketball: Signing Day has come and gone, leaving the Tigers with 5 signees. Frank Haith realized that he seriously needed to add some size to this team, and he did just that with this class. Ryan Rosburg (Chesterfield, MO) is a solid prospect with very good size (6’10 250 lbs). When it comes to athleticism, Rosburg has much room for for improvement, but he is very physical and not afraid of contact in the paint.

Joining him in the frontcourt are Stefan Jankovic (Ontario, CAN) and Tony Criswell (Independence Community College).

Mizzou also seems to be getting a sort of pipeline in Canada. After signing Kadeem Green two classes ago, the Tigers signed Jankovic and his teammate Negus Webster-Chan, a 6’7 small forward.

Rounding out the class is Dominique Bull, a 6’3 guard from Worcester, MA. Bull is an extremely tough and physical player.

As a whole, the class lacks star power, but has enough solid pieces to build a solid team around.
