Mizzou-Texas Tech: Running Diary

facebooktwitterreddit

Due to the fact that I’m in California, I was unable to catch the beginning of the game, but here is a running diary of the game from the time I started watching.

(All times are PST)

1:09- Well that’s not how I like to start watching a game. Tech scores on a QB run and goes up 14-0. Uh oh.

1:13- Another 3-and-out. BAD offense for Mizzou so far. This could get ugly…oh wait, it already is.

1:19- Hoping that the offensive issues were just cause it’s really windy. Praying, more like.

1:20- Good 3-and-out there for the defense. Surprisingly good punt considering it was going into the wind. Terrible field position for the offense.

1:22- It’s just not the same without Henry Josey. De’Vion Moore doesn’t have the same explosiveness through the hole. Without a doubt, Josey gets a first down on that run.

1:25- Someone want to explain to me how tackling the receiver while the ball is in the air isn’t called a pass interferene?

1:26- 3rd down sack on Franklin. This is the worst offensive performance I’ve seen in a while from the Tigers.

1:32- Great play by EJ Gaines (of course), almost got an interception that would’ve gone for six. So close.

1:33- Major part of the problem? HORRIBLE field position for the offense. Tech’s special teams are playing great so far.

1:39- 4th and inches…….and they get it!

1:40- Long run by Moore! There we go!

1:41- 5 yard keeper by James Franklin for the touchdown! 14-7 Red Raiders.

1:52- No way is that a pass interference on Gaines. I apologize if I sound biased there, but that was obviously not one, to everyone except the referee.

1:57- Mizzou D starting to play a little better now.

2:00- Tech kicks a field goal with 27 seconds left. 17-7 Red Raiders.

2:02- REALLY starting to like L’Damian Washington. Long catch to the middle of the field to get in field goal position!

2:03- Trey Barrow kicks a 39-yard field goal to end the half.

2:04- Halftime score: Texas Tech- 17, Missouri- 10.

2:10- Halftime lull, and seeing as I’m back in the greatest state in the country, here’s a little song to commemorate it.

2:24- Texas Tech gets the ball for the 2nd half.

2:27- I am very impressed by the playcalling by Tech’s Offensive Coordinator, Neal Brown. He’s keeping it surprisingly balanced, and has had the Tiger defense on their toes all game long.

2:31- There goes the defensive improvements. Had them 1st and 25 due to penalties, and they end up with a first down.

2:34- There has been no pressure on the quarterback today. Nice deflection by Zaviar Gooden on 3rd down. Texas Tech kicks a field goal to go up 20-10.

2:39- Franklin is looking pretty good running the ball yet again.

2:40- I am really looking forward to the future for Marcus Lucas. Underthrown pass by Franklin (would’ve been a touchdown had it been a better throw) but he made a great catch for a first down.

2:41- Tough run by Franklin on 3rd and 10. Penalty after the play takes it to first and goal on the 7.

2:43- B-E-A-UTIFUL jumping catch in the corner of the endzone for Michael Egnew. 20-17 Red Raiders in the 3rd.

2:53- Sorry I haven’t posted in a few minutes, had a random nosebleed. On a similar note, can the defense actually tackle?

2:54- Again I say…MAKE A TACKLE!

2:58- Too many mistake for the Tigers. 11 missed tackles according to the announcers. Ouch.

3:00- Frustrating. Pass deflected in the air, three Mizzou players and one Tech player. Guess who caught it?

3:01- Big 3rd down. 3rd and 7 on the 24…

3:01- Red Raiders touchdown in the corner of the endzone. 27-17 Texas Tech.

3:07- Start of the 4th, and the Tigers are down 10. Let’s get a rally!

3:08- Great catch in traffic for Wes Kemp.

3:11- 3rd and goal on the 9…GREAT catch in traffic by Marcus Lucas for the touchown! Wait a second, it’s being reviewed…

3:13- Call on the field stands. Was very questionable, but not indisputable evidence. Texas Tech leads 27-24 with 12:03 left.

3:13- Random sidenote, I am still proud of myself for predicting Lucas to breakout in a big way this year. *Gives self pat on back*

3:17- Thought that was a fumble, said the runner was down. Challenge is pending…

3:20- Ruling on the field stands. Runner was down.

3:22- Terrell Resonno sniffs sniffs out a screen pass on 3rd and 5. Red Raiders punt, Mizzou takes over at the 25.

3:25- What started off as a good run by Franklin got VERY scary with a fumble. Tigers recover, though.

3:26- This is why I hate running wide receiver reverses. Big loss.

3:27- 3rd and 15, but the pass is deflected. Missouri will punt, being just out of field goal range. Touchback.

3:28- More tackling issues.

3:30- Intentional grounding on Tech. Finally some good pressure by the DL. 3rd and 26…and he’s stopped well short.

3:32- More bad field position after a penalty on the punt return.

3:37- Yet another big catch for Lucas! This time he’s making things happen after the catch.

3:38- Franklin just does not go down! The way he runs reminds me of a poor-man’s Tim Tebow.

3:39- BIG 3rd and 1. I’m calling a sneak…

3:40- And they get the first down.

3:40- Franklin runs it in!!

3:41- Running the ever-popular play of stack the left side of the field then run right with Franklin.

3:41- 2:22 left, Missouri is up by four, and Texas Tech has the ball. This is a great game.

3:47- They are moving the ball way too well.

3:47- Come on, defense…

3:49- Clutch time. Red Raiders have it first and 10 on the 11…

3:49- 4 yard catch. 2nd and 6…

3:51- INTERCEPTION!

3:51- Dominique Hamilton swats it up in the air, and is caught by Michael Sam!!

3:52- That victory formation is pretty!

3:52- Tech looks upset, they’re trying to start fights. Good for Steckel making sure the team doesn’t do something bad.

3:54- Mizzou- 31, Texas Tech- 27

3:55- Great win. Props go to James Franklin, he played a gutsy game. Tough kid. He had some struggles early but shrugged it off to score 4 touchdowns.
