Missouri-California Recap

As Dick Vitale said, Mizzou’s 92-53 win over the California Golden Bears was “Varsity versus JV.”

If anything tells the story of the game, it is the fact that Steve Moore made a three-pointer and that Jarrett Sutton scored 6 points.

Marcus Denmon, once again, led the team to victory, this time with 18 points and 5 rebounds, along with 4 assists and 2 steals. Denmon was also awarded the CBE Classic MVP award. Kim English led the team in scoring with 19.

The game was won by the entire team, however. Every player stepped their game up and played to the best of their abilities. Six Tigers were in the double digits in points, and the team shot 57.7% as a whole. The defense was extremely impressive too, as they held the Golden Bears to 30.4% shooting and absolutely shut down Cal’s best player, Jorge Gutierrez. He scored just 11 points and fouled out after throwing a punch at Mike Dixon.

The Tigers played like a top 10 team today, and against a very solid team, as Cal entered the game ranked 18th. If the team can keep up this kind of play, the sky’s the limit.
