MU “Committed to Continuing” KU Rivalry, Kansas Isn’t

The University of Missouri’s athletic department reiterated its desire to continue its rivalry with Kansas in a newsletter Tuesday evening. The newsletter provided information for fans going to the Missouri-Kansas game Saturday, and included a subtle reference to Kansas’ insistence Missouri forfeited the rivalry.

"Like you, we look forward to cheering our Tigers on to victory this Saturday, Nov. 26, when Mizzou meets KU at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. This historic rivalry, which MU is committed to continuing, stirs the emotions and spirit of our fans like no other."

Kansas posted “Mizzou forfeits a century-old rivalry” on Twitter Nov. 6 after Missouri announced its move to the SEC.

Before Missouri left the Big 12, Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zaenger said he had no interest in continuing the rivalry if Missouri went to the SEC.

"“KU-Missouri is a great rivalry. The University of Kansas is a great Midwestern school, loyal to our Midwestern conference and to our Midwestern roots. The KU-Missouri rivalry belongs in the Big 12 Conference. Should Missouri decide to leave the Big 12, we would wish them well.”"

One school’s athletic department has said it is willing to continue the rivalry. The other school’s athletic director has explicitly said he is not willing to do so. Whoever runs KU’s Twitter account needs to reconsider his or her definition of “forfeit.”
