Before Christmas, Pinkel Steals Grinch From Wyoming
MU football coach Gary Pinkel hired his nephew Alex Grinch to replace departed MU safeties coach Barry Odom. Grinch, who is the son of Pinkel’s sister Kathy Grinch, was Wyoming’s secondary coach and recruiting coordinator.
Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune provided insight into how Grinch fits in with MU’s recruiting plans:
"According to his bio on the Wyoming team website, Grinch recruits Dallas and Northeast Texas, as well as the Northeast.Since Christensen and Grinch arrived at Wyoming, the Cowboys have signed 14 players from Texas, including nine in February.Odom was one of six Pinkel assistants assigned to recruit Texas, specifically the east side of the state. With Missouri’s move to the Southeastern Conference, Pinkel has assigned two coaches to Florida and another to Atlanta but plans to keep a presence in Texas, especially Dallas and Houston."
MU’s staff under Pinkel has done a great job of signing overlooked and underrated Texas recruits, and will not stop doing so simply because of the move to the SEC. If Grinch could get nine recruits from Texas to come all the way to Wyoming, he’ll have no problem getting them to come to MU, regardless of conference.
