Missouri Tigers Even Series With A&M
By Derek Franks
The Missouri Tigers baseball team followed up the series opening loss to Texas A&M with a 3-2 win on Saturday. The No. 23-ranked Tigers got their first road SEC win this season, but improved to 14-2 on the road over all, and they did so against the No. 1 overall team in the nation.
Mizzou responded a day after allowing the Aggies to get many of their baserunners home by keeping A&M from touching home much in the game, despite being out hit 12-7.
Mizzou spent several innings in a row without reaching base, but the bend but don’t break fortitude of the defense kept the Tigers in the game. Both teams stranded 10 base runners each and Texas A&M got caught stealing three times in the second half of the game.
The difference maker was a double in the eighth inning from Mizzou’s freshman sensation Ryan Howard, which knocked in the eventual game winning run, breaking the 2-2 standstill that had lasted since the fourth inning.
Brett Bond and Logan Bone added two other RBI’s as Missouri scored the fewest runs in a win thus far this season. It was, however, the eighth one-run win for the Tigers, so far.
With the win, the Missouri Tigers improved their record to 20-8 overall and 6-2 in the SEC in 2015, while Texas A&M suffered only its second loss of the season.
The two teams will meet Sunday for the tiebreaker in the three game set.
