Missouri Tigers Fall Short Vs. Texas A&M
By Derek Franks
Despite a well-fought effort, the Missouri Tigers baseball team fell in the series opener against No. 1 Texas A&M Friday. Mizzou rallied midway through the game after going down early, but couldn’t fend off The Aggies ability to get runners on base and into scoring position.
Mizzou fought back to tie the game at 3 after falling behind 3-0 in the early goings. But it was as close as they would get to grabbing a lead. Texas A&M eventually took the first of a three game series, 7-4.
Missouri’s talented pitcher Reggie McClaine, took his second loss of the season after he was unable to stop Aggies sluggers from getting 3 runs by him in the 7th and 8th innings.
Texas A&M was led by its star player Nick Banks, who had two big hits, one a single that scored in a run and a double off the wall, eventually scoring.
Missouri had a great game from freshman Brett Bond, who 3-4 from the plate and batted in a run. Mizzou’s MVP thus far in 2015, Trey Harris, had a solid outing as well, going 2-5, with a double and an RBI himself. Two additional hits and run came from Ryan Howard. Mizzou looked impressive from the plate, but just couldn’t score when it counted.
Texas A&M, however, did get their base runners home, and that was the difference in the game. The two will face off again tomorrow for the game 2 of the series in College Station.
