Missouri Tigers Baseball: Tough Schedule Ahead

The Missouri Tigers baseball team has had it rough when it comes to the schedule.

The team has now faced four consecutive ranked opponents, three of which were ranked in the top 15. After two straight losses on the road– one of which a series loss– the Tigers return home for a date with the 4th ranked Florida Gators on Saturday, part of a three game series at Taylor stadium.

The series follows a tough break against No. 1 overall Texas A&M, which Mizzou found a way to play neck and neck with through two games and managed a victory before succumbing to the Aggies big bats in the rubber match game on Sunday.

Mizzou followed the loss to Texas A&M with a close one game stand with No. 15 Illinois on Tuesday, but was unable to capitalize on golden opportunities, falling 4-3 in the team’s first neutral site loss of the season and only third loss away from Taylor stadium all of 2015.

The Tigers played ranked opponents Georgia and Arkansas Pine Bluff prior to these series, with successful results, sweeping Georgia for their first SEC sweep since joining the conference and a win in their first SEC series of the season. Then, they won a three game set with Arkansas Pine Bluff with outstanding pitching.

Now, they will have to take on another tough opponent with big bats. With Mizzou still trying to prove to the masses that they truly have arrived on the baseball field, this is a wildly significant series with potentially epic proportions.

Mizzou fell to 20-10 on the season with the loss to Illinois, and potentially knocked itself out of the top 25, but there is plenty of season to play and many reason for Tiger fans to be optimistic that they can compete in the conference this year.
