Missouri Tigers: Black and Gold Game Brings Plenty Of Excitement

The Missouri Tigers are already hard at work at defending their two-time SEC East championship. Their spring football season has gone, for the most part, pleasantly well, despite many concerns about the offense. There’s lots of chatter about what this team can do. And Mizzou fan excitement might be at an all time high.

And as we approach the end of spring football, the SEC East champs have something else to look forward to: the Black And Gold game, Mizzou’s annual spring game.

The game will be hosted at Faurot Field Saturday, April 18, with a kickoff time of 4:00 p.m., and a record crowd is expected to attend. The athletic department issued a press release this week inviting fans to come early for a whole day of planned activities. One of the nation’s best tailgates will get its first go around of the new season, there will be a score of games and activities, a Mizzou Store tent sale and food and beverages, including food trucks, available to fans before and during the game.

There is quite the buzz surrounding this game this year. It feels, at least to me, that the Missouri Tigers are in a place right now where their football program has really arrived in the SEC. It finally feels at home in the conference– even if many SEC fans remain detractors simply for geographic reasons.

Regardless, the Mizzou football team belongs from a performance stand point. Even as the predictors and experts still want to pick against them, there should be no reason that this team is not the favorite to win the East division again in 2015. With Maty Mauk, the SEC’s second most experienced quarterback, leading the way with an awesome offensive line and running game and a defense that figures to be another powerhouse unit, this team can do great things in 2015.

The Black And Gold game signifies the beginning of the road for what could be another very successful– and fun– ride for this program.

While it signals the end of spring football, the Black and Gold game, in a lot ways, means the beginning of another great season of college football in Columbia. We may have to go a full 2+ months without football for real, the break certainly won’t kill any of the buzz. This season will be another great year of Missouri Tigers football. And it feels so good to say that.
