Missouri Basketball Lands Michael Porter, Jr.
Michael Porter, Jr. announced his commitment to the University of Missouri, less than 24 hours after his father, Michael Porter, Sr., accepted terms on an offer to become an assistant coach for Mizzou.
Following a dismal season where the Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-24 (2-16 SEC), news of Porter’s announcement via Twitter to play for Missouri in 2017, had Tigers fans abuzz.
After Missouri head coach Cuonzo Martin offered Michael Porter, Sr. an assistant job on his coaching staff, the stars seemed like they just might align for the recently beleaguered basketball program, as fans hoped that Michael Porter, Jr. might follow his father to Columbia.
Missouri Tigers Basketball
Porter, the No. 1 prospect in the country, played for Nathan Hale (Seattle, WA) his senior year. What was a disaster of a program, Porter helped to win the state title.
Following the dismissal of Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar, Porter was granted a release from his commitment to the Huskies, and joined the Tigers the next day.
Now, recovering from the 2016 season doesn’t seem like it will be as painful. The news continues to come in boons for the Tigers, as the basketball program seems to be headed in the right direction, thanks to the hiring of Martin, and a little luck in recruiting.
At the very least, watching the Tigers recruit this year will be very intriguing. Missouri’s recruiting effort is off to a hot start, as the Tigers have received commitments from four-star point guard C.J. Roberts (Richland, TX), four-star point guard Blake Harris (Raleigh, NC), and now Michael Porter, Jr. will be the latest weapon in Missouri’s growing arsenal.
Welcome home, Michael! M-I-Z!
Editor’s note: Porter’s ranking as the No. 2 prospect in the country, has been corrected to No. 1 prospect in the country.
