Missouri’s 20-game win streak came to an end Friday night. In a sobering 9-2 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Tigers defense was unable to stop the surging offense of Arkansas.

The Razorbacks took an early lead in the second inning, although an error committed by Dominic Fletcher, with two runners on base, set-up what looked to be a long night for both teams.

A quick turnaround favored Arkansas, though. With the bases loaded, the Razorbacks took off on a 5-0 scoring tangent, before the weather took over and put a two-hour damper on Arkansas’ success.

Following the rain delay, Arkansas continued its reign over the Tigers, batting four more runs.

Missouri’s first hit single came midway in the game, at the bottom of the fourth, off of a Brian Sharp hit and Trey Harris run. The Tigers’ only home run single occurred at the bottom of the fifth by Robbie Glendinning.

Considering the hot streak that the Tigers have been on, and that they are a team brimming with talent, there shouldn’t be a great reason for concern on this loss. The longer a team continues to win, the more challenging it is to keep the streak alive.

In their last game, the Tigers struggled mightily  against Little Rock. The sobering reality that Mizzou’s win streak may have ended a week ago, was enough to bring the fans’ back to earth on what has been a superb baseball season for the Tigers, so far.

Fear not Tiger fans, Missouri’s next outing against Arkansas will be far more competitive than tonight’s. Sometimes for a team to be successful in the long-run, it is better that it fails sooner, rather than later.

The Tigers square-off against the Razorbacks again on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM on SEC Network, weather permitting. There is heavy rain in the forecast for Columbia, so if the game is postponed, the Tigers will look forward to a double-header against Arkansas on Sunday.
