Missouri’s Sophie Cunningham recognized by AP
One Missouri Tiger garnered recognition, adding to Mizzou’s growing list of accolades earned this season.
Women’s basketball sensation Sophie Cunningham was named AP All-American Honorable Mention on Monday.
The sophomore guard, home-grown in Columbia, had a solid season with the Tigers, averaging a team-best 17.5 points per game, fourth-best in the SEC.

Cunningham averaged an impressive 26.5 points per game in the Lady Tigers’ last four conference games.
A strong showing by the Tigers, which carried over from the 2015-16 season, saw Missouri finish with an overall 22-11 record, 11-5 in the SEC in 2016-17.
Cunningham made 14-of-15 free throws against Texas A&M, had 10 rebounds against Western Illinois, and made nine 3-point field goal attempts against Arkansas.
Once again, it seems like the sky will be the limit for Cunningham and the Missouri women’s basketball team in 2017-18.
Returning player for Missouri next year, include Lianna Doty, Jordan Roundtree, Cierra Porter, and Bri Porter.
In addition to Cunningham being named AP All-American Honorable mention, women’s basketball coach Robin Pingeton was named SEC Coach of the Year, after leading the Tigers to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, for the first time in 30 years.
Next year, Missouri returns most of its starting lineup, ensuring the Tigers a great deal of success, and hopefully a deeper run into the NCAA tournament than this year, when they lost a tough contest to Florida State.
