Missouri Tigers commit Michael Porter, Jr. was named the McDonald’s All-American MVP at the event’s 40th annual award presentation.

In an exciting, much-anticipated, and close game, West beat East, 109-107 at Wednesday night’s McDonald’s All-American game.

Missouri fans had a greater interest in the game, as No. 1 recruit Michael Porter, Jr. recently gave his verbal commitment to Mizzou, and fans were excited to see him play.

According to Tod Palmer of the Kansas City Star, “among chants of M-I-Z Z-O-U, Porter couldn’t stop smiling. ‘It felt amazing,’ he said of hearing Tigers fans’ signature chant as he stood on the (Chicago) Bulls’ home floor. ‘I didn’t know there were that many Mizzou fans. For them to support me the way that they have feels amazing. I can’t wait to go home.'”

Missouri fans know that the Tigers have something special in the 18 year-old recruit. A storyline that has been skirted by many media outlets, the Porters are interwoven in Mizzou’s history.

Both of Porter’s parents played D-I basketball, but it doesn’t end there. Porter’s father, Michael Porter, Sr., was an assistant coach for the Missouri women’s basketball team for several years, before he was hired as an assistant in Washington, and is now an assistant for the Missouri men’s basketball team.

His aunt (mother’s sister) is Robin Pingeton, head coach of the Missouri women’s basketball team. Porter’s sisters, Bri and Cierra, are also integral players for the Lady Tigers. Jontay Porter may be next in line to wear a Tigers uniform; then, there are yet four more younger siblings who play basketball, and may also be a part of the Porter lineage at Mizzou.

Porter, Jr.’s night at the All-Star game was nothing less of eventful, as he contributed 17 points and eight rebounds.

He was understandably giddy to be in the presence of NBA greatness, such as Cleveland Cavaliers’ coach Tyronn Lue, and the Bulls’ Dwayne Wade and Rajon Rondo. Porter is awash in fame now and for the foreseeable future, but while he’s living in the moment, he seems to be taking it all in stride.
