My adolescent years were spent in North Carolina, about two hours away from Clemson University. While it wasn’t the closest drive, when you consider that in rural areas everything is farther, the distance makes sense.

At age seven, I got my first taste of Clemson football–sort of. My aunt and uncle are huge Clemson fans, and I remember the first time I saw the “Death Valley” from their lake house, with that big orange paw. I kind of understood the hype, even without having previously attended a game.

Over the years, I saw more Clemson highlights and games than I can even remember, and since having been a fan of Missouri over the past decade or so, would love to see a battle of the Tigers: Mizzou versus Clemson.

Since Clemson won the 2017 National Championship, the thought of both teams battling it out feels even more enticing. I can’t predict on how such a matchup would turn out, as it would be many years in the future, but if I were to give it a win or loss, I’d predict a close win by Mizzou, in perhaps a game that goes into overtime.

In the history of both teams playing each other, Clemson leads the series, three-to-one. The last time the Tigers faced-off was in 2000, so a rematch is long overdue. On September 9, 2000, the Clemson Tigers walloped the Missouri Tigers, 62-9.

On September 21, 1996, Missouri reigned victorious by fourteen, 38-24. In 1950, 46 years earlier, Clemson routed Missouri, 34-0. In 1949, Clemson edged Mizzou, 24-23.

I’d love to see Mizzou bring the almost 70-year series outcome a little closer, and possibly play against Clemson a little more often than once almost every half-century.
