Notre Dame has a storied history. An institution with such prestige that you know it’s near a big city in Massachusetts? California? New York?…No, Indiana. South Bend, to be exact.
Probably the only major thing to put such a town on the map. Let the record show that while I respect its traditions and appreciate its history, I have no love for the Fighting Irish.
My dislike for Notre Dame borders on hatred, but not because of what it is, but what it’s become, and how every year, this school chooses which conferences its athletic programs will join, while also maintaining its “independent” status.
I’m glad that Notre Dame has the financial backing that it doesn’t need help from a conference, but in regard to maintaining its independence as well, my inner child says, “no fair! Beggars can’t be choosers, Notre Dame!” Or, maybe it’s that conferences are begging the Irish to join.
The series between Missouri and Notre Dame is tied at 2-2. The last time these teams played each other, was in 1984, when the Irish defeated Mizzou, 16-14, in Columbia.
Given Notre Dame’s seeming tendency to schedule opponents who they are likely to beat, it is unlikely that they would want to schedule the Tigers. If they do come knocking, then it’s likely that they feel Missouri is a lesser opponent.
