The Missouri Tigers are in overdrive when it comes to recruiting. Coach Cuonzo Martin has been brilliant in his methods of drawing the attention of top-level talent to Mizzou’s blossoming basketball program.

Cuonzo Martin’s recruiting strategy has been anything but typical. Seizing the opportunity to offer Michael Porter, Sr. a position on his coaching staff all but guaranteed him a commitment form his son, Michael Porter, Jr.

Since committing to Mizzou, the younger Porter has also recruited top talent which he played against or on the same team as during various all-star games.

Not to say that Martin has not had his hand in recruiting, but with the No. 1 overall recruit also selling the rebuilding Tigers’ program, Mizzou has received more attention from the unlikeliest of recruits.

On Tuesday, coach Martin offered four-star forward K.J. Hymes to a 2018 scholarship. According to Campus Insiders, “Hymes, who has now received 17 offers, will make his decision in September, following the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League season.”

On a note of growing interest, former Illinois commit Jeremiah Tilmon was granted a release from his letter of intent to the Illini. Now Coach Martin can begin recruiting for his services for the 2017-18 season.

Michael Porter, Jr., of course, has already been recruiting Tilmon, long before his release from Illinois was official.
