It’s been over a decade since Missouri baseball last played Murray State. In 2005, the Racers pulled off the win, 6-5. Can Missouri break its losing streak tonight?

The Missouri Tigers prepare to host the Murray State Racers in what will be the last home stand of the season for Mizzou.

More from Truman's Tales

Missouri, coming off of a sweep by Texas A&M, and on a six game slide, will try to rebound and gain a little momentum heading into its final games against SEC opponents Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

I’ve been left scratching my head over this team’s hot start and sudden cool down. As I recently stated, the Tigers have left men on base often over the last 10-or-so losses.

The most concerning is how Missouri has set itself up with many opportunities to win in come-from-behind fashion, and has not been able to close the deal in close games.

Missouri’s record against Murray State is dead-even, but there have been many years in between contests, which could play into the Tigers’ favor.

Including 1976, the teams have faced each other 16 times in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1987, and most recently in 2005.

Murray State will enter this contest having won five of its last six, which means the Racers have some momentum coming into this series.

Missouri head coach Steve Bieser has a successful history against Murray State, having previously coached the Southeast Missouri Redhawks. According to MUTigers, Bieser is 8-4 against Murray State, which will hopefully transition into this evening’s game play.

If the Tigers play offense better than they have, and don’t leave the entire defense to rest on pitching, we could see a “W” to start things off right.

You can catch tonight’s game on the SEC Network and on KTGR. Opening pitch is at 6:00 PM, CT.
