It was a promising start to the first game of the series, as Mizzou got two in the top of the first to take a quick lead on LSU.

An error kept the inning going for Mizzou, which took advantage as Kirsten Mack scored and Kolby Romaine hit into a fielder’s choice.

Unfortunately, Missouri did not get back on the scoreboard for the rest of the game.

LSU tied the game in the third inning with a two run homer from catcher Sahvanna Jaquish.

In the fourth, Shemiah Sanchez made up for her first inning error, as she scored the winning run on an RBI single by Allie Walljasper to make it 3-2, and from there LSU held on for the win.

On the second day, both teams split two 3-1 affairs.

In the first game, Mizzou starter Madi Norman held her own through five innings before allowing a two run homer in the bottom of the sixth that put LSU up 3-1.

Mizzou certainly had its chances to score, but left runners on base for five consecutive innings.

Cheyenne Baxter took the hill in game two, and the staff ace had another stellar outing, allowing just one run on six hits in the ballgame.

Up 1-0, Romaine and Burnside singled to open the inning.

A fielding error and a sac fly by Rylee Pierce got the two runs across, making it 3-0.

LSU got one run in the bottom of the seventh but Mizzou persevered to win the series finale.

On Friday, the Tigers will be back in action against No. 21 Ole Miss at Taylor Stadium.

Track and Field

LaQuisha Jackson and Maya Cody shined once again in the 100m run for the Tigers, as they finished first and third, respectively, in the event at the Drake relays.

Jackson sported a time of 11.65 and Cody 11.77. Drew White finished first in the 10k run and Reinhard Van Zyl won the javelin.

They were joined in the top five by Cain Winebrenner, who finished fourth in the men’s 800m run with a time of 1:54.49.

Missouri earned fifth place finishes from Teylar Adelsberger in the 3000m steeplechase (10:30.27), Valerie Thames in the 100m hurdles (13.5), and Gabi Jacobs in shot put with a throw of 14.82 m.

While conditions were not ideal due to rain over the weekend, the Tigers persevered for another strong performance at the meet.

The team will have the weekend off to prepare for the SEC Championships in Columbia, SC on May 11-13.
