2. Northwestern
This game may not be great, but the reporting of the game would be top-notch. I suppose this could be the “Journalism Rivalry?”
Anyhow, these two teams have met a total of nine times throughout their history, with the Tigers holding a 5-4 edge. Their most recent meeting was in the Alamo Bowl in 2008, a 30-23 win for Mizzou.
Furthermore, a lot of students from the Chicago area attend Mizzou, so holding a semi-regular series with NU could have some benefit.
Head coach Pat Fitzgerald has brought Northwestern back from obscurity during his tenure in Evanston, holding a 77-62 record at his alma mater.
Evanston played linebacker for the Wildcats from 1993-96; he won the Bronko Nagurski award twice and the Chuck Bednarik award once during his time as a player.
Evanston’s squads have made seven bowls in 11 years and finished the season ranked, twice.
Native son who played linebacker? Yeah, Mizzou has one, too.
