Missouri Football: Ranking Missouri’s best quarterbacks since 2000
Brad Smith was not the only dual threat QB that Missouri has seen. James Franklin was unstoppable on the field, at times. While Franklin could run and scramble like Smith, he was far more accurate passing the ball.
Franklin did well his first year as a starter. In 2011, he led the Tigers to an 8-5 record, but due to an injury in 2012, he missed most of his junior year, which resulted in the Tigers’ abysmal 5-7 record in their first year in the SEC.
However, 2013 was the year Franklin truly shined by scoring 23 touchdowns and throwing just six interceptions, while also completing his passes at an outstanding 62.1%. Not to mention, leading the Tigers to a 12-2 record and the school’s first SEC championship appearance.
Although they lost a tough game against Auburn, Franklin guided the Tigers to a Cotton Bowl victory over Oklahoma State, which was a fitting end to Franklin’s stellar career at Mizzou.
