Missouri Football: 5 games the Tigers should win
Purdue is the third game on Missouri’s schedule. While we feel like Missouri should defeat South Carolina, it’s still not one of the games I feel confident that the Tigers will win, yet.
Missouri’s history of games against the Boilermakers isn’t good. Historically, Purdue holds a four game edge over Missouri, with an overall 6-2 record. Dating back to 1895, Purdue has won the last three contests.
The last time these teams played each other, some of you, myself included, weren’t born, yet. In 1980, Warren Powers coached the Tigers, and Jim Young coached the Boilermakers. Purdue won a close game, 28-25.
In 37 years, a lot has changed for both teams. Missouri joined a new conference, Purdue has fallen into a holding pattern of irrelevance, and the Tigers have two SEC East Championships on their resumé.
Whether Missouri is coming off a win or loss to South Carolina, this game should be a win for the Tigers. Purdue also finished the 2016 season with an abysmal record. Going 3-9, the Boilermakers were 1-4 on the road.
In 2016, Purdue lost seven of its last eight games, and unlike the Tigers, the Boilermakers probably won’t see a big turnaround in the first half of their season, if not the entire 2017 season.
The Tigers will win this game, and have earned at least two wins on the season – three, barring a loss to South Carolina.
