Missouri’s quest to add highly desired recruits Trevor Trout and Michael Thompson to its list of commits came a step closer on Wednesday.

This offseason, Missouri spent a lot of time solidifying its offensive line, which showed great improvement in head coach Barry Odom’s first season.

The defensive line (and secondary) suffered some pretty big losses though, as talented athletes Charles Harris, Aarion Penton and John Gibson were lost to graduation and the NFL Draft.

Some defensive players were also affected by self-inflicted issues, which caused more thinning of depth and experience on the defensive line. The Tigers lost defensive end Nate Howard to legal troubles, and a couple of recruits to academic issues.

Once recruiting season hit a lull, it’s been a while since Mizzou landed a commitment. Great news came on Wednesday though, as two big name, in-state recruits made a couple of announcements.

The first announcement came earlier in the day from defensive line recruit, Trevor Trout, who announced via Twitter, that he has shaved his choices down to six. Yes, Mizzou made the cut. Also rounding out his final six is Alabama, Miami, UCLA, Georgia, and USC.

As far as a crystal ball prediction, 247sports has Trout at 100% for Mizzou. Any further sign to whether Trout will commit to Missouri points to how well the Tigers fare in 2017.

The second announcement came from defensive line recruit Michael Thompson, who on Wednesday night, announced that he will visit Columbia this weekend. In Mizzou’s game against Missouri State, Thompson will be in the house to see how the Tigers look.

The No. 2 defensive tackle in the nation is also projected to commit to play for Missouri, but again, his commitment will depend on Missouri’s success on the field.
