After falling flat on the opening drive, the Missouri Tigers fell to a 1-2 record, as Purdue dominated the Tigers in all phases of the game.

If there was any hope that Missouri could salvage its season against Purdue, it all ended by the time the Boilermakers were up 28-0 midway through the first half.

In their miserable performance against Purdue, the Tigers suffered multiple self-inflicted wounds in the form of dropped passes, errant throws, interceptions, fumbles, missed tackles, poor defense, and even a touchdown catch that was stripped away from wide receiver J’Mon Moore in the endzone.

The lone highlights of today’s game came in the form of some choreography from punter Corey Fatony, and the lone three points that kicker Tucker McCann put on the board.

On defense, the Tigers looked lost on the majority of their plays in the first half. The offense was so inept at keeping the ball, that by the second half the defense was completely worn out.

As was mentioned in our halftime observations, this team shows bits of potential, but it never transitions into a period of momentum. The defense makes a big play on one down, and then on the pursuing down, it gets burned.

On offense, it’s basically the same. As we said on Twitter, this pretty much summarizes and foreshadows Missouri’s season, at this rate.

I’d love to sit here and say that the Tigers will turn this sinking ship around, but I’d be lying to you. I don’t see it, not after this performance. If Missouri is going to rite this ship, then some changes need to come down from the administration.

With a new coaching staff – personnel who know how to recruit and call plays – Missouri will be able to return to the competitive and dominating, at times, presence that it showed prior to Barry Odom’s tenure as head coach.

If Missouri wants to win big, the athletics department will have to offer a salary comparable to the programs that are competitive in the SEC. While Mizzou doesn’t have the bank account that an Alabama, Tennessee, or Florida might have, it can still offer a contract that would appeal to a talented line of coaches.

Missouri isn’t  a bad program, by any means. Athletic Director Jim Sterk showed that he wanted the basketball program to be successful, and with the money that the program is sinking into a new endzone, there will be changes coming down the line.

So, what’s next for Missouri? At this point, since there’s probably very little chance that the Tigers can beat Auburn, maybe it’s time to mix-up the starting lineup in the areas that have shown very little promise. Maybe a good rotation can be a source of inspiration on some level.

I hate to say it, but if this is the performance that Missouri gives against Auburn, the final score will probably be double Purdue’s 35 points. Then, if not already, the question of whether Odom’s seat is getting hotter, will begin to swirl.
