A strange Mizzou connection will get Seattle Seahawks fans excited for the Super Bowl

While all eyes will be on starting quarterback Sam Darnold in the Super Bowl, the Seattle Seahawks' backup signal-caller may have a more historical significance.

Teams are 3-0 in the Super Bowl with a former Missouri Tiger as the backup quarterback. Chase Daniel won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints and Blaine Gabbert won two of them, one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and another with the Kansas City Chiefs. Former Tiger Drew Lock will back up Darnold in Super Bowl LX.

So although Lock probably won't even play for Seattle, does his unique connection with Missouri give them a mysterious edge?

Does Drew Lock hold the key to winning a Super Bowl for Seattle?

Of course having a Missouri quarterback has very little to do with determining a Super Bowl, and the only way Lock hits the field is if things go very wrong for Seattle, but it's an interesting streak that could continue with a Seahawk victory. Because while Lock has made it to the end, our friend Brady Cook is about a far as humanly possible from a Super Bowl with the New York Jets. So take Lock's ties to Mizzou with a grain of salt.

Lock hasn't started in years, and has just three pass attempts on the season, but the former second-round pick was a baller for the Tigers. He's second all-time in yards and touchdowns, behind only Daniel, and is still considered one of the better backups in the NFL.

Meanwhile for the New England Patriots, Marcus Bryant, the former Mizzou tackle, is the other Tiger who could come home with a Lombardi trophy. While Bryant is also unlikely to see the field, it's still awesome to see that, no matter who wins the game, a former Missouri player will get a Super Bowl ring.
