Armand Membou literally couldn’t contain the excitement of becoming a New York Jet

In one of his first interviews as a New York Jet, Armand Membou was already a little too comfortable with his new head coach Aaron Glenn.

After three seasons playing for head coach Eli Drinkwitz at Missouri, right tackle Armand Membou has a new head coach after being selected seventh overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.

New York has been one of the league’s most dysfunctional franchises and is currently riding a league-long 14-year playoff drought. While the Jets underwent an organizational overhaul with a new general manager, Darren Mougey, and head coach Aaron Glenn, there’s no denying that Membou is heading to the doldrums of the league, but you wouldn’t know that from his reaction on Thursday night.

Armand Membou might be a little too comfortable with his new head coach

Glenn is known for being a “players-coach,” and that’s clearly the impression that Membou got through his pre-draft interactions with the first-time head coach. Though Glenn may not want his players to be that comfortable with his personality heading into Year 1 of a new regime.

As the reporter responded, Membou will obviously get a draft-night pass on calling his head coach a “cool-ass dude,” and he admitted himself that he was “still geeking” after being drafted into the league. So, the future star right tackle shouldn’t have to worry about facing his coach’s wrath when he arrives in New York, and frankly, his genuine excitement helped to endear himself to a downtrodden fan base.

The Jets have been attempting to rebuild their offensive line for years, and the addition of Membou after adding left tackle Olu Fashanu in the first round a year ago under now-former general manager Joe Douglas finally completes the project in front of free agent signing Justin Fields, who will be the franchise’s starting quarterback. Still, spending a top 10 pick in the trenches isn’t nearly as “sexy” as taking a big swing on a quarterback or bringing in a wide receiver, but it seems that Membou’s excitement rubbed off on more than a few Jets fans.

Even his head coach returned the love in his post-draft press conference alongside Mougy. The Jets are looking to run the ball and establish a physical identity in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, and it seems drafting Membou is the perfect place to start.
