Did Brady Cook's legacy game win over the Mizzou fanbase, again?
By Zach Sweet
Brady Cook and the Missouri Tigers fan base have a more toxic relationship then college-aged kids with their exes. It seems like over his three years as the starter, its a game-by-game basis whether or not he is booed or cheered for.
On Saturday, when Cook made his return from injury at the end of the third quarter, he received a historically loud roar. He credited that ovation with the extra juice that Mizzou needed to come back and beat Auburn.
"It was so, so special," Cook said. "Going out the first drive back and listening to the crowd, that gave everybody on the team juice. That makes a huge difference."
It wasn't even two weeks ago that the Mizzou fan base was ripping him to shreds on social media following the 41-10 loss to Texas A&M.
This isn't the first time that Cook has experienced a situation like this. Last season, Cook was booed off the field early in what ended up being a victory over Kansas State.
The Mizzou fanbase just can't seem to make up their minds on the St. Louis native, but that hasn't stopped Cook in the past and certainly won't stop him now.
Riding high after the 21-17 victory on Saturday, No. 21 Mizzou will travel to Tuscaloosa to meet up with No. 14 Alabama. Cook's health is definitely in jeopardy as nobody knows what his injury designation currently is, but hopefully an update will be provided in Coach Drinkwitz' press conference on Tuesday.
One thing is for certain: Brady Cook is a resilient kid who cares deeply about the Missouri Tigers and if there is anything he can do about it, we'll be seeing Cook start in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
“I mean, for all the criticism that young man takes, 12 (Cook) sure would die on that field for everybody,” Drinkwitz said. “For him to be out there, put his body on the line for us, is incredible and that ought to be inspiring to everybody that watched it today.”
