Eli Drinkwitz and Mizzou have added another offensive coach to their staff. After a three-year stint at Clemson, a coach who goes way back with Drinkwitz is about to be reunited.
According to On3, Missouri is hiring former Clemson offensive coordinator Garrett Riley. Riley has spent time with Clemson, TCU, SMU over the last six years, and overlapped with Drinkwitz for one season at Appalachian State in 2019. While Riley's role hasn't officially been announced, it's likely he'll work with the quarterbacks in some capacity.
Tigers bolster their coaching staff without another successful offensive mind
After hiring Chip Lindsey as offensive coordinator, the Tiger have now added another experienced coach to the staff. Riley, who is the brother of USC coach Lincoln Riley, won the Broyles Award in 2022, which recognizes the best assistant coach in college football. He helped to develop then Heisman candidate Max Duggan during TCU's run to the National Championship game.
Riley will now be tasked with the development of new transfer quarterback Austin Simmons, who will likely be the Tigers' new starter in 2026. While the run game flourished in last season, the passing attack, which was last in the SEC in yards per game, was lacking. The additions of both Lindsey and Riley represent a big investment into reigniting the Tigers' passing game.
Riley is another solid hire for Drinkwitz in an offseason that has overall been very positive. The Tigers were able to keep their star players for the most part, and have probably actually gotten better in the coaching department despite losing offensive coordinator Kirby Moore. Now, there's even a possibiliy the Riley can secure a few Clemson transfer in the portal for Mizzou. The Tigers currently boast the No. 13 ranked transfer class in the country, and have yet to make their expected splash moves at edge.
