After taking a head coaching job at Washington State, former Missouri offensive coordinator Kirby Moore has brought in two other Mizzou coaches to his new staff in Pullman.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Moore is expected to hire Missouri tight ends coach Derham Cato. They had worked together at Mizzou for the past three seasons.
And according to Chris Hummer, Washington State is set to hire Missouri assistant offensive line coach Jack Abercrombie as their new offensive line coach.
Mizzou loses key coaches to former OC Kirby Moore
Cato, a former Arena League player, began his coaching career at Dartmouth before moving on to stops at Maine, Vanderbilt and Washington. He joined Missouri in 2022, inheriting a tight ends group that combined for just 10 total receptions on the season. Since then, he's helped to develop tight end Bret Norfleet into one of the team's top passing targets.
Abercrombie was in his second stint at Missouri, after briefly leaving them for a job with VMI in 2021. He was most recently the assistant offensive line coach, helping to develop NFL talents like Armand Membou and Javon Foster.
Including Moore, the Tigers have now lost three coaches to other jobs since the end of their regular season. Missouri has heavy offseason workload all of a sudden, and will now look to replace them along with at least 10 transfers in the coming weeks. Missouri will face Virginia in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 27. The transfer portal opens Jan. 2.
