After suffering their first home loss of the season in front of fans—a heartbreaking defeat to Texas A&M—the Mizzou Tigers faced their next challenge against a tough Oklahoma Sooners squad.
While Oklahoma sits in the bottom half of the SEC, the game started as a close contest before Mizzou began leaning on its stars. Mark Mitchell was nearly unstoppable in the first half, scoring 19 points as the Tigers took a commanding 20-point lead into halftime.
Mitchell was highly efficient in the first half, shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. He led the Tigers in both points and rebounds at the break.
With the Tigers holding a 20-point lead at halftime, Mark Mitchell played just 13 minutes in the second half, where Oklahoma held him to six points. Still, he finished with a career-high 25 points.
Mitchell’s 25-point performance against the Sooners marked the best game of his college career, surpassing his previous career high of 23 points, which he recorded twice last season with the Duke Blue Devils.
Coming into the game, the Tigers had lost three of their last five, raising concerns about their offensive consistency. Mark Mitchell had been struggling during that stretch, averaging just 7.2 points per game as his role became increasingly limited.
Mitchell’s 25-point outburst was a key factor in Mizzou’s victory over the Sooners. As March approaches, his impact will be crucial for the Tigers down the stretch.
In addition to Mitchell, Tony Perkins contributed 12 points, continuing his elevated level of play. Over the last three games, Perkins has averaged 12 points per contest.
Mizzou cruised to an 82-58 victory, making a strong statement at home after their loss to Texas A&M.
Mizzou's next matchup is Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CST on SEC Network.
