After another successful season, Mizzou locked up head coach Eli Drinkwitz with a fresh extension in November, and now the details of the contract have been released.
The contract is for six more years for a total of $64.5million dollars. The staff salary pool has also been increased by $4 million, and is now $16 million in total. However, the most interesting part of the deal might be the incentives built into the deal.
For every season that the Tigers win eight games or more in the regular season, Drinkwitz will automatically get one-year, and an additional $200,000 added onto the contract.
Drinkwitz has 200,000 reasons to eclipse eight wins year after year
Missouri has won eight or more games in each of Drinkwitz's last three seasons, so the new target is reasonably attainable. This year, the Tigers won eight games, but dropped three of their last five, and failed to defeat an opponent with a winning record. They'll play No. 20 Virginia on Dec. 27 in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
There are several other incentives built-in that come with winning even more. Drinkwitz can earn $50,000 for a 10-win season, $100,000 for an 11-win season, and $150,000 for a 12-win season. He won 10 games in 2024, and 11 in 2023. The Tigers haven't had a 12-win season since 2013 under coach Gary Pinkel.
Overall, Mizzou is in great hands with Drinkwitz, and many fans were happy to bring the coach back and avoid the crazy coaching carousel.
