The Tigers have now lost 15 players to the transfer portal as a freshman safety will now enter his name come Jan. 2.
CJ Bass, a true freshman safety out of East St. Louis, will enter the portal according to On3 Sports. He was the No. 64 ranked safety in the 2025 class.
Bass, a 6-foot-2 safety, was buried on the depth chart, and only appeared in three games this season, totaling four tackles. He'll now look to latch on elsewhere with four years of eligibility remaining.
The Tigers will be without a promising DB as transfer total mounts
Mizzou has now lost 15 players to the transfer portal, including at many positions of need. 12 of the 15 players have come from the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback, receiver and offensive tackle have been hit especially hard, and head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company will have their work cut out for them trying to find replacements via the portal.
The portal opens on Friday, and the Tigers are expected to be very active rebuilding the offense. And while the defense has fewer transfers, they could lose both Damon Wilson II and Zion Young to the NFL Draft, leaving huge holes at edge. Veteran cornerback Toriano Pride Jr., who is out of eligibility as well, forces Mizzou to be big players in the cornerback market.
After the loss of Bass, the safety room has Santana Banner, Marvin Burks Jr., Trajen Greco, Jackson Hancock and several freshman in the 2026 class.
