Following a massive basketball upset, the good news kept rolling for Missouri Tigers athletics on Tuesday. This time, it was the football team providing a spark, as head coach Eli Drinkwitz secured one of the top remaining players in the transfer portal: linebacker Damon Wilson.
The former Georgia linebacker will remain in the SEC, joining the Missouri Tigers in Columbia ahead of his junior season.
Wilson follows his former Georgia teammate Darris Smith, who transferred to Mizzou ahead of the 2024 season but missed the entire campaign after tearing his ACL during preseason training camp. Smith played a key role in recruiting his fellow linebacker to the Tigers, making this addition a significant one for the team.
As a sophomore at Georgia, Wilson tallied 22 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. One of his greatest strengths was his availability, as he appeared in all 14 games for the Bulldogs.
Just two recruiting cycles ago, Wilson was one of the most highly touted recruits in the nation, ultimately choosing Georgia over powerhouse programs like Alabama and Ohio State.
Wilson is poised to make an immediate impact for the Tigers in the 2025 season.
