Georgia - May 2-4
Headlined by Charlie Condon and what could be one of the greatest individual seasons in college baseball history, the Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a stellar 43-17 (17-13) campaign. Their 2024 season included hosting a Regional and advancing to the Super Regionals, where they fell to NC State in a decisive Game 3. Now, head coach Wes Johnson and his squad are returning in 2025 with their sights set on making a deep run and contending for a national title.
Offensively, the Bulldogs lost nearly everything. Three players, including Charlie Condon, were selected in the MLB Draft, while others graduated or transferred, leaving major gaps in the lineup. However, not everyone is gone.
Leading the 2025 offense will be key returners like senior Slate Alford, who played in all 60 games last season and hit .300, along with junior Kolby Branch and sophomore Tre Phelps—one of Georgia’s two players named to the 2025 Golden Spikes Award Watchlist.
To help replenish the lineup, Georgia brought in an impressive transfer class. Top names from the portal include Nolan McCarthy (Kentucky), Christian Adams (FAU), and Devin Obee (Duke), all of whom could make an immediate impact. The Bulldogs also added a small but talented freshman class featuring some of the top names in high school baseball, including Bryce Clavon and Cade Brown.
On the pitching side, the Bulldogs are in a much better position than they are offensively, though they are coming off a rather unorthodox season on the mound. In 2024, only one pitcher made more than 10 starts—junior Leighton Finley, who returns to the rotation this season. Beyond Finley, Georgia relied on a mix of spot starters, meaning their 2025 rotation will either feature new faces or bullpen arms stepping into larger roles.
One of the most likely candidates to take that next step is Kolten Smith, one of Georgia’s two players named to the 2025 Golden Spikes Award Watchlist. Smith went 9-2 last season and led the team in strikeouts, recording 105 in just under 70 innings across 20 appearances, including four starts.
Others, like DJ Radtke, who struck out 20 batters in under 16 innings, and Brian Zeldin, who led the team with 23 appearances, will either maintain their bullpen roles or take on increased responsibilities.
The rest of the innings will be filled by both returning players and newcomers. Transfer additions like Justin Byrd (USC Aiken), Brian Curley (VCU), and Zach Brown (Ohio State) bolster the bullpen, while freshmen arms such as Nate Taylor and Asher Sabom could also make an impact in their first season.
