Mizzou basketball already ranks dead last in the SEC in two key statistics

Despite a pretty looking 10-3 record, the Mizzou Tigers do not look like a good basketball team at the moment. Fresh off a 91-48 blowout loss to Illinois, Missouri is debatably one of the worst team in the SEC heading into conference play. Their 10 wins are against quad 3 and 4 teams, and the Tigers have yet to beat an opponent ranked higher than 100 in the NET rankings.

It's a troubling sign for a team with top recruiting classes and NCAA Tournament expectations. But as of now, the Tigers are projected to miss the tournament entirely with their current resume.

So how bad are things after 13 games? The Tigers rank dead last in the SEC in two crucial categories.

1. Free Throw Percentage

At just 67.9%, the Tigers are the worst free throw shooting team in the SEC, and the 293rd worst in the entire country. It's been a problem all-season, especially for Mark Mitchell, who gets to the charity stripe at an impressive rate. But despite his 7.2 attempts per game, he's converting just 68% of them. If Mizzou is going to win games, they'll need to get this sorted out quickly.

2. Opponent Three-Pointers

While the Tigers have played decent interior defense, their inability to stop the three is becoming an issue. Opponents are making 9.9 three per game against Mizzou, and at a troubling 37% clip, which both put Mizzou dead last in those categories. The Tigers are shooting the three just as well, but the perimeter defense has to improve unless Mizzou gets rapidly more comfortable with shootouts.
