Mizzou basketball announces its 2024/25 team captains
By Zach Sweet
With Mizzou basketball set to tip off Monday, the Tigers announced their 2024-25 team captains Thursday afternoon.
The group of three captains includes graduate student Caleb Grill, senior Tamar Bates and graduate student Jeremy Sanchez.
Grill will be looking to make an early impact after missing most of last season due to injury. The Iowa State transfer was limited to just nine games before his season was cut short. Grill is expected to contribute right from the start this season and will likely be among the starters on Monday.
Bates is coming off a career year in which he was one of the few bright spots for the Tigers. The Indiana transfer appeared in 33 games, making 26 starts and averaging 27.8 minutes per game. Bates averaged 13.4 points per game, shooting 49% from the floor and 39% from three-point range.
Sanchez will be entering his first year at Mizzou, and Coach Gates naming him a captain speaks to the relationship they built during their time together at Cleveland State. The grad transfer played in 49 games, making just one start in two seasons at Saint Leo University.
Anticipation is building for Mizzou basketball after a season to forget in 2023-24, when the Tigers failed to win a conference game.
Mizzou is set to open its 2024-25 basketball season on Monday, November 4, with an away game against the Memphis Tigers at FedExForum, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
This matchup follows last season's opener, where Missouri suffered a 70-55 home loss to Memphis.
