The Tigers haven't been playing at full strength over the last month, but they'll be one step closer when then take the Florida Gators on Saturday.
In his Friday press conference, head coach Dennis Gates confirmed that both Jayden Stone and Trent Pierce will see some action.
“From an injury standpoint, I expect Jayden Stone and Trent Pierce to play minutes in this game," said Gates.
Stone had been out with a hand injury since November, and Pierce has yet to play this season for the Tigers. Gates also added that forward Jevon Porter will miss a second straight game due to a leg injury.
Two key players for Missouri set to return against Florida
Stone is averaging 13.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this year on 63% shooting, but has missed the Tigers' last eight games. He's been a great pickup for Gates, and has provided a huge spark off the bench for Mizzou when he's been available. His return should lighten the scoring load for Mark Mitchell and Jacob Crews.
Meanwhile, Pierce, who has yet to suit up this season, will finally get to go against the Gators. Last season the junior averaged 6.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
While Gates never specified how much each player will play, it's a safe bet that both will be on some sort of pitch count. Still, regardless of how limited they are, it's a step in the right direction for a Tigers team desperately needing some quality wins to keep their NCAA Tournament dreams alive.
