Mizzou Basketball Remains Unranked Despite Receiving AP Votes

The Tigers did not crack this weeks top 25 NCAA basketball rankings again.

Dennis Gates has guided Mizzou to a strong 13-3 start, with all victories coming at home. The Tigers have also opened SEC play with a 2-1 record, tied for the second-best mark in what has been an exceptionally competitive conference this season.

The Tigers received 8 votes in the latest rankings, a promising sign for the program's future, especially as they continue to navigate a challenging conference schedule this season.

Despite not breaking into the top 25 rankings during the 2024-25 campaign, Mizzou has remained unfazed, showing resilience and determination as they continue to compete at a high level.

Mizzou’s three losses this season have all come against ranked opponents: No. 1 Auburn, No. 18 Memphis, and No. 19 Illinois. However, they also secured a marquee victory by upsetting No. 9 Kansas at home last December.

Most of Mizzou's other wins, both in and out of conference play, have been marked by impressively large margins of victory, showcasing their ability to dominate opponents.

Despite their strong résumé, Mizzou finds itself just outside the NCAA top 25 rankings. They are among 13 programs receiving votes—ranging from St. John’s with 83 votes to New Mexico with 2—but falling short of making the cut.

Dennis Gates and the Tigers are competing in what is clearly the toughest conference, according to the rankings. Nine SEC programs cracked the top 25, and another, Oklahoma, received 63 votes—far more than Mizzou—despite their disappointing 0-3 start in conference play.

Mizzou's next challenge comes against the Florida Gators, who are ranked fifth in the latest poll—their highest position of the season—and are one of only three teams to receive a first-place vote.

Voters clearly hold Florida in high regard, setting high expectations for the program. For Mizzou, tomorrow night’s contest against the Gators presents the perfect opportunity to make a statement. A win could not only solidify their standing but also propel them into the top 25 for the first time in over two years.
