For the second time in SEC play, the Missouri Tigers won its game but dropped in the Associated Press poll.
The first occasion came in Week 4 when the Tigers defeated Vanderbilt in double overtime. Their reward was a drop in the rankings. The Commodores are now ranked No. 25 in this week's poll, but at the time, Mizzou was penalized for its victory.
The Missouri Tigers entered Saturday ranked No. 19 in the country, but after their 21-17 win over Auburn, they dropped to No. 21.
Meanwhile, teams like No. 20 Illinois and No. 19 Pittsburgh, which had a bye last week, moved up in the rankings.
This was a game where Mizzou played nearly three quarters without its starting quarterback and still secured an SEC victory.
The good news for the Tigers is that the AP poll will no longer matter when the College Football Playoff rankings are released on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The CFP rankings determine who eventually makes the playoffs, and Mizzou will have multiple opportunities to improve its position over the next two weeks. This Saturday, the Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa for a matchup with No. 15 Alabama.
Mizzou is hoping for positive news regarding its quarterback, as the Tigers likely need Brady Cook to play in order to remain competitive.
