For the past two months, Missouri has been without one of their top big men, and against Texas on Saturday, that looks to continue.
Forward Jevon Porter, who hasn't played since Dec. 14, will miss the Tigers game against Texas on Saturday school officials confirm. He's averaging 6.2 points, four rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game this season.
Porter, who is dealing with a leg injury, will miss yet another game, and after two months, fans might start wonder when, or if, they'll see the big man this season.
Jevon Porter still has no timetable to return to the Tigers
Missouri is on a nice little win streak after defeating Texas A&M this week, and will look to keep things rolling against Texas. Center Shawn Phillips Jr. came up huge against the Aggies, giving the Tigers the go ahead bucket as well as getting the game-sealing block down at the other end just seconds later. But while Phillips has come in clutch, the depth behind him is limited, so Mizzou could very quickly run into issues should he miss any time with Porter already out.
Porter was brought in this year as a transfer out of Loyola Marymount, but has only seen limited action after getting hurt in mid-December. The 6-foot-11 senior has been effective, however, and the Tigers are certainly a better team with him healthy and available.
Maybe the coaching staff is letting him work back slowly, but time is of the essence for a Tigers squad that still has some work to do to make the NCAA Tournament. To ensure a berth, Missouri still needs to win three or four of their remianing games, with three still left agaisnt a ranked opponent. Hopefully Porter can return sooner rather than later and get the Tigers accross the finish line.
