Drew Pyne's college career has featured plenty of highs and lows, and he'll be looking for a new home for the 2025-26 season. The 24-year-old quarterback announced Tuesday his intention to enter the transfer portal, with two years of eligibility remaining.

Pyne spent just one season at Mizzou after transferring from Arizona State, where he received a medical redshirt for the 2024-25 season.

The most successful season of Pyne's college career came in 2023-24, when he won the starting quarterback job at Notre Dame. He led the Fighting Irish to an 8-2 record and surpassed 2,000 yards passing.

In his lone season with the Tigers, Pyne was thrust into a difficult situation when starting quarterback Brady Cook went down with an injury against Auburn on Oct. 19. Pyne entered the game but struggled to find a rhythm, finishing 10-of-21 passing for 78 yards.

After a week of preparation for Pyne and recovery for Cook, it was decided that Cook would start against Alabama on Oct. 26. However, after just one quarter of action, Cook was injured again, and Pyne was called upon to take the reins at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Things didn't go well.

Despite facing criticism leading up to his next start in the Oklahoma game, Pyne came through when it mattered. Needing a spark late in the game, he led Mizzou down the field, ultimately finding Theo Wease in the end zone and helping the Tigers defeat the Sooners in epic fashion.

With the addition of Beau Pribula via the transfer portal and the potential emergence of young quarterbacks Sam Horn and Matt Zollers, the quarterback room at Mizzou is packed.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Pyne believes he'll have a better chance of finding playing time elsewhere and will test the transfer portal in search of a fourth collegiate home.

It will be interesting to see where the senior winds up and if he's able to find a starting job elsewhere. One thing is clear about Pyne: he's a tough player. While it was a struggle at times, he delivered a special moment for Mizzou against Oklahoma with an incredible three-touchdown performance in the victory.
