In one of the more odd developments, Missouri basketball is apparently pursuing a former G-League player who still has some college eligibility left.
Kyree Walker, who most recently played basketball in Mongolia's top league, is attempting a move college basketball. Among the schools reportedly vying for the 25-year old is Mizzou, who still technically has a roster spot available.
Could Mizzou add a player for a late season run?
The Tigers do have a spot available, and Walker could theoretically join them for a push at an NCAA Tournament bid. While it's certainly an unusual situation, Mizzou isn't in a position to be shooing away opportunities. Despite being 10-2, their schedule has lacked quality opponents, and ESPN's Joe Lunardi currently has them out of the tournament.
Walker, a former five-star recruit in the 2020 class, originally committed to Arizona State. He later de-committed, instead opting for the professional route. Walker then bounced around the G-League and overseas for the last few years, and now at age 25, will look to land with a college squad. Besides Mizzuo, he's also heard from Tennessee, Texas Tech, Louisville and a dozen others.
The 6-foot-7 Walker could provide a boost to a Tiger offense that lacks scoring options outside of Mark Mitchell and Jacob Crews. The Tigers have struggled at times to find production from outside their top two threats, and adding Walker would relieve some of the pressure of Missouri's two stars. He averaged over 21 points per game in The League in Mongolia.
