After injuries to Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor, the New York Jets will turn to their third string quarterback on Sunday.

Head coach Aaron Glenn announced that former Mizzou quarterback Brady Cook will get the nod against the Jacksonville Jaguars, marking his first career start.

“Tyrod will be out, Justin will be out,” Glenn said. “That means Brady will be our starting quarterback this week. He’s gotten all the reps with the ones.”

Brady Cook will make history on Sunday in his first career start

When Cook takes the field on Sunday, he will be the first undrafted rookie to start a game for the Jets in 50 years. While he filled in last week, throwing for 163 yards and two interceptions, this weekend will mark his first official start. The Jets sit at just 3-10 this season, and in all likelihood will end up with a top-five draft pick this spring. Still, Cook has a chance to show the Jets, and even other teams around the league, he's capable of playing in the NFL.

After five seasons with the Tigers, including three years as a starter, Cook went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, eventually landing with the Jets. New York entered the season with Justin Fields as their starter, but poor play and eventually injuries have left the Jets with no other options than to start the young Cook on Sunday.

Cook will have his work cut out for him, as the former Mizzou signal caller will face the first place Jaguars, who are enjoying a four-game win streak. Still, Glenn seems confident in Cook's ability to run the offense.

"[Cook] knows our system. He's been here since training camp. He came right in and understands the flow of what we're gonna do as far as an offense."
