3 Missouri Football Players Selected to Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team
By Zach Sweet
With the college football season kicking off on Saturday and the SEC set to begin later this week, the final preseason awards and nominees are being announced. One of the last preseason honors was revealed on Thursday afternoon when the SEC released their Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team.
This list is always of interest, as coaches' opinions on different players often vary significantly. When the team was announced, Missouri had three representatives heading into 2024. Luther Burden was selected to the first team, adding yet another preseason accolade to his already impressive list. Additionally, offensive linemen Cam'Ron Johnson and Armand Membou were named to the third team.
Luther Burden
Luther Burden doesn't need an introduction at this point. Heading into his junior season, he's poised for a career year, and with this likely being his final season in college football, expectations are sky-high. Burden has received nearly every offseason accolade possible for a wide receiver, and reports from camp indicate he's primed for a big year. It will be exciting to see how his chemistry with Brady Cook has developed as they head into 2024.
Cam'Ron Johnson
Cam'Ron Johnson is heading into his final season of college football after spending three years with the Houston Cougars and a solid redshirt senior season with Missouri last year. Johnson brings a wealth of experience to the offensive line, and he should be a valuable asset to the players around him. After starting nearly every game for Missouri last season, he’ll look to pick up right where he left off, helping the team continue its strong run game after Cody Schrader's record-setting season.
Armand Membou
Armand Membou has quietly made a name for himself during his time at Missouri, though he deserves much more recognition. The offensive lineman from Lee's Summit, Missouri, committed to the Tigers as a four-star recruit out of high school and quickly made an impact by earning playing time as a true freshman in 2022. After starting the last five games of that season, he went on to make all 13 starts last year. Now, heading into his junior year as an upperclassman, Membou is stepping into a leadership role. His consistent productivity on the field makes him well-deserving of this preseason nomination, and it will be fun to see his continued growth.
