Former Mizzou Guard, Sean East, Beats the Buzzer in Summer League
By Zach Sweet
Sean East is finally beginning to hit his stride in summer league for the Los Angeles Lakers. After taking a couple games to get going, East has made an impact as of late. The former Mizzou guard has started two of his first five game for the Lakers.
On Thursday night, East played 29 minutes in the Lakers 93-89 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. He scored three points, and recorded four rebounds, but his highlight of the night came with time winding down in the second quarter. East drove to the hoop and made a running layup at the buzzer to end the half.
This play was eerily similar to a lot of East's best highlights from his time with Mizzou. Creating space off the dribble and getting to the basket with force. It's fun to watch as he looks to earn a contract with the Lakers organization.
The 6-foot-3, 175 pound point guard was not selected in the 2024 NBA draft. But after signing an Exhibit 10 deal, East will likely be suiting up for the Los Angeles Lakers G-League affiliate this year, the South Bay Lakers.
East will look to continue developing his game as summer league winds down in the coming weeks. He is averaging a respectable seven points per game on 22 minutes over the course of his first five games. The Lakers will be back in action on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM EST. You'll be able to follow the action on NBA TV.
