With Missouri's fall camp wrapping up, Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz spoke with the media on Tuesday afternoon. The Missouri Tigers are set to kick off their season in just eight days, hosting Murray State on August 31st.

Coming off a historic season where Missouri won eleven games, expectations are sky-high. It's been more than 15 years since Missouri has been ranked this high in the preseason AP poll, with the Tigers set to open the season ranked No. 11 in the country. Coach Drinkwitz made an interesting point, highlighting the difference between expectations and standards.

"Expectations are external. That’s what everybody else outside of this building believes we should or could accomplish or be. Internally, we talk about standards, and so for us, the standard is how we practice, how we carry ourselves, the focus and energy that we have, the core values that we live by, the goals that we wanted to accomplish. I think we worked really hard to meet those every day. I was proud of the consistency that our guys showed to meet those standards."

Coach Drinkwitz had plenty to say about the season ahead. While things are looking up for the program and there’s been a lot of positive news coming out of camp, Missouri has yet to sell out their home opener against Murray State. Coach Drinkwitz delivered a powerful message to all Mizzou fans, urging them to show up and support the team from week-one.

“Our challenge is we need to sell out the first game. We’re a top-11 program in the country coming off a Cotton Bowl win, and in my opinion, if we don’t sell out the first game, then that shows me that we’re not where we want to be as a fan base yet. Okay? I mean, that’s just the reality. Don’t sit on the sideline and wait...Come watch this team. Be excited about this team and embrace this team."

It will be fun to see how fans respond to Coach Drinkwitz's message, and it's likely that tickets for the home opener will sell out in the coming days. With higher standards set for themselves heading into 2024, you can expect Missouri to come out strong from the opening whistle next Thursday night.
