Missouri Football Land 5-Star Kicker Robert Meyer
By Zach Sweet
Missouri continue to be active in the upcoming recruiting circuit. Coming just weeks after their last splash, the program will be adding to its 2025 recruiting class once again. This time, Missouri is adding depth to a special-teams position.
It was announced Monday evening that the Tigers added five-star kicker, Robert Meyer, from Colfax, California. His five-star rating was given by Chris Sailer Kicking, who has ranked him the No. 13 kicker in the class of 2025. Sailer has worked with Meyer over the years and had good things to say about the recruit.
"Robert is an outstanding high school kicking prospect. He is a great looking athlete with a live leg. Robert does an excellent job on field goal. He hits a pure, accurate ball off the ground and has 55+ yard range. His kickoffs are strong. Robert drives the ball 65+ yards with 4.15+ time. Also a very talented punter."
What makes Missouri a good fit?
This addition comes at a perfect time for Missouri's program. In their 2023 campaign, the importance of having a high-quality kicker was shown. Harrison Mevis helped win multiple games with his booming leg, including a play that changed the course of Missouri's season, when he drained a 61-yard field goal to defeat Kansas State. Unfortunately for the program, Mevis was out of eligibility and turned professional at the end of the year.
Meyer will not be alone when he gets to Missouri, he actually might have an uphill battle earning playing time at first. With Mevis gone, a new five-star kicker is ready to step up in 2024. Blake Craig will be entering his sophomore year, after appearing in three games last season for the Tigers. Craig is another kicker with a five-star rating and was the No. 2 ranked kicker in the nation according to Kohl’s kicking camps.
Craig's 2024 season will dictate whether or not we see Meyer in 2025. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out once both kickers are at Missouri. It's not often that a teams has multiple five-star kickers on the roster. Both Craig and Meyer have tons of potential, and will be vying to earn the role that Mevis has held for four seasons.
